Indigenous Language Revitalization and Applied Linguistics: Conceptualizing an Ethical Space of Engagement Between Academic Fields

This conceptual paper examines the relationship between two academic areas: applied linguistics and Indigenous language revitalization. While domains have shared interests, they tend to operate separately. examines: 1) possible reasons for this separateness; 2) mutually beneficial be in closer conversation 3) changes necessary creation of an ethical space engagement (Ermine, 2007) these areas. We write from distinct positions: Belinda, a nēhiyaw woman working resurgence Andrea, white settler issues related settler-colonialism. Drawing our joint individual experiences, we explore how research fields can complement each other as well intersect create richer interdisciplinary knowledge.
